Why Go for Umrah in August?

    • Fewer crowds: August isn’t a peak season, so you get more space and time at the Haram in Makkah and around the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

    • Better prices: Lower demand usually means better hotel rates and cheap Umrah packages.

    • Manageable heat: Yes, it’s hot. But every hotel, bus, and the mosque itself is air-conditioned, so you’re only outdoors for short stretches.

    Is Umrah Open in August?

Yes. Umrah runs all year round, and August is no exception. With a bit of planning around the heat, it’s a genuinely comfortable time to travel.

What the Weather Is Actually Like

Let’s be honest about it: August in Saudi Arabia is hot, with daytime temperatures regularly reaching the high 30s to mid-40s°C in Makkah and Madinah. But this isn’t a reason to avoid the trip  it’s simply something to plan around.

The Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah are both fitted with cooling systems, misting fans, and shaded walkways, so the time you spend praying and performing your rituals is far more comfortable than the outdoor temperature suggests. Your hotel and every transfer vehicle will also be air-conditioned. In practice, most pilgrims find that the heat is only really noticeable during short walks between the hotel, the mosque, and the bus  and even those are manageable with the right preparation.

The upside of travelling in this heat is real: shorter queues at the Kaaba, easier access to Hijr Ismail and the Rawdah, and hotel rooms that are simpler to book close to the Haram.

What a Typical August Umrah Trip Looks Like

Most pilgrims choose either a short stay like a 7 nights 3 star Umrah package, a standard 10 nights 4 star Umrah package, or a full 14 nights 5 star Umrah package. Here’s a rough shape of how it usually goes:

    1. Fly out from your UK airport to Jeddah or Madinah, depending on your package.

    2. Settle into your first city  most pilgrims start in Madinah, spending the first few nights visiting the Prophet’s Mosque, Quba Mosque, and the historic sites around the city, before travelling on to Makkah.

    3. Perform Umrah in Makkah  your guide will walk you through Tawaf, Sa’i, and the other rituals if it’s your first time, and you’ll have free time to return to the Haram whenever you like.

    4. Rest and explore  depending on your package length, you’ll have time to shop, rest at your hotel, and make repeat visits to the mosque at quieter hours. You can even combine your journey with secondary destinations like our 10 nights 4 star Umrah plus Dubai package.

    5. Fly home with your transfers already arranged.

Every package includes a return airport transfer and travel between Makkah and Madinah by air-conditioned coach, so you’re not left arranging local transport yourself.

    Documents and Preparation Checklist

Before you travel, make sure you check off this checklist:

    • A valid passport with at least six months left before expiry

    • Your documents needed for Umrah (we handle your visa application as part of every package)

    • Ihram clothing for men, and modest, comfortable clothing for women

    • Travel insurance  we can point you to suitable providers if you need one

    • Any prescription medication you take regularly, carried in hand luggage with a copy of the prescription

    • Comfortable, easy-to-remove footwear for the mosque

Be sure to read our guides on what to pack for your Umrah trip and how to travel to Makkah with children if you are bringing family.

Getting Ready for the August Heat

A few simple things make a big difference:

    • Drink water often: Carry a refillable bottle and top it up throughout the day.

    • Wear light fabrics: Cotton and linen breathe better than synthetics.

    • Protect yourself from the sun: Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses go a long way.

    • Pace yourself: Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas during the hottest hours, roughly midday to mid-afternoon.

How to Choose the Right Package

    Ask yourself:

    • Budget: How much do you want to spend per person? Have another quote? Use our beat my quote service to see if we can match or lower it.

    • Group size: Travelling solo, as a family, or in a group? (Family and group rates are available.)

    • Comfort level: 3-star and central, or 5-star with private transport?

    • Dates: Any school holidays or work commitments to plan around? Compare with July Umrah packages or autumn deals like September Umrah packages and October Umrah packages.

Not sure? Tell us what matters most and we’ll match you to a package  no obligation.

Is it too hot to perform Umrah in August?
