Can Children Perform Umrah?

Can Children Perform Umrah?

Yes, children of any age can perform Umrah. Unlike Hajj which enforces strict age limits Saudi Arabia allows parents to perform Umrah with infants, toddlers, and young children year-round.

Key Travel & Permit Rules for Minors

  • Visas and Passports: Minors must hold their own individual valid passport and a visa linked under a parent or guardian’s travel profile. See our full guides on what documents you need for Umrah and whether a visa is required for the current rules, which apply to children just as they do to adults.
  • Nusuk Permit System: Parents register children under the “My Family” tab in the official Saudi Nusuk mobile app to secure permits for rawdah visits and sacred site access.
  • Ihram Attire Rules: Young boys who have reached puberty must wear standard two-piece unstitched Ihram towels, while younger pre-pubescent boys can wear simple white clothing or lightweight cotton outfits. Pre-pubescent and teenage girls wear loose-fitting modest dresses or abayas.
  • Navigating Crowds: Parents traveling with infants or toddlers can bring baby carriers or use strollers on the designated upper floors of the Tawaf and Sa’i corridors for added safety.

Don’t forget health requirements either  our guide on what vaccinations you need for Umrah applies to children as young as one year old, and is easy to leave until too late.
