Whether you can get a refund if you cancel your Umrah booking depends on your agency’s cancellation policy, how far ahead of departure you cancel, and whether the flights and hotels in your package are refundable or non-refundable fare types.
What Usually Affects Your Refund
-
Timing of Cancellation: Cancelling well in advance of your travel date typically gives you a better chance of recovering most of your payment. Cancelling close to departure often means losing a larger portion, or all, of what you’ve paid.
-
Deposit vs Full Payment: Many agencies treat the initial deposit as non-refundable, even if the remaining balance is refundable under certain conditions. Always check this distinction before booking.
-
Fare Type: Flights booked on non-refundable fares, which many cheap Umrah packages use to keep prices lower, usually cannot be refunded even if the rest of your package allows changes.
-
Hotel Cancellation Terms: Some hotels, especially during peak periods like Ramadan or winter holidays, apply strict non-refundable terms once booked. If you are travelling during high-demand periods, review terms on our December Umrah packages, October Umrah packages, or November Umrah packages.
What to Check Before You Book
-
Ask for the cancellation policy in writing before paying anything, not just a verbal summary over the phone. To understand how costs are structured across a booking, read our guide on Umrah package cost breakdown.
-
Check what counts as a “confirmed booking” — some agencies apply stricter refund terms once your visa has been processed, since visa fees are rarely refundable once issued. Review our guidance on what documents do I need for Umrah and Umrah visa terms.
-
Ask whether travel insurance covers cancellation for reasons like illness, bereavement, or visa rejection, as this is often a more reliable route to recovering costs than the package’s own refund terms.
Departure Hubs & Regional Bookings
Cancellation policies remain standard regardless of your departure point in the UK, but flight rules may vary by carrier:
-
London Hubs: Compare booking and flight options on our Umrah packages London page.
-
Regional Hubs: Explore flexible routes via Umrah packages Manchester, Umrah packages Birmingham, and Glasgow Umrah packages.
-
Flight Comparisons: Learn more about airline choices in our article on which UK airport gives the cheapest Umrah flights.
If You Need to Cancel
-
Contact your agency immediately — the sooner you cancel, the more of your payment you’re likely to retain, depending on their policy.
-
Ask about rebooking instead of cancelling, since some agencies allow you to move your booking to a later date rather than lose your payment entirely.
-
Keep all correspondence and payment records, especially if you need to make an insurance claim or dispute a charge.
A Word on ATOL Protection
If your booking is ATOL protected and your agency itself fails financially, that’s a different situation covered by the Civil Aviation Authority. This guidance is specifically about standard cancellations initiated by you, the traveler, not agency insolvency. For that scenario, see our guide on what happens if your Umrah agency goes out of business.
