Ihram Attire

According to the weather in Saudi, you should wear cotton and lightweight fabric clothes. They are ideal in hot weather. You can also use light colours like white and beige. Women must wear simple, breathable, and loose-fitting clothes.

Women should wear clothes that cover their whole body except their hands and face. No need to wear specific clothes as men wear.

Avoid wearing fashionable and tight clothes to prevent any hassle. That makes your journey comfortable and easy.

Common Mistakes

Here are some common mistakes. Women must avoid these mistakes while entering the state of Ihram.

Using Perfume

Women should completely avoid perfume or scented items. Do not use perfume on clothes or the body before entering the state of Ihram.

Wearing Makeup

Clean your face, and do not apply makeup or other beauty products. Applying makeup is restricted in Ihram.

Unintended Violations

Be careful while using any products. Applying lotions or touching scented items can break Ihram rules.

Improper Clothing

The required modesty prevents wearing tight or flashy clothes. Always wear simple, loose and plain clothes.

Talbiyah

The Talbiyah is an important part of Ihram. It is a declaration of submission to Allah. Women should recite it as soon as they make the intention for Ihram.

Women should recite it while making the intention for Ihram. It’s an announcement of submission to Allah.  One of the important parts of Ihram is Talbiyah.

Words of the Talbiyah are:

لَبَّيْكَ اللَّهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ، لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ. إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكَ، لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ.

This means, “Here I am, O Allah, here I am. Here I am, You have no partner, here I am. Surely, all praise, blessings, and dominion belong to You. You have no partner.”

Saying these words makes a connection between you and Allah. Talbiyah keeps the heart focused on Allah. Women should repeat it and recite it softly during their journey.

Entering Ihram State

Women must make the intention to enter the state of Ihram. Before crossing the Miqat, you should make the intention. You can say this loudly or in your heart softly.

Women must begin reciting the Talbiyah after making the intention.

While avoiding these common mistakes, women can enter Ihram correctly. Following these steps, you can focus more on this spiritual journey.

Rituals of Umrah

The ritual of Umrah helps Muslims to feel closer to Allah. Every step is full of spiritual and historical.

Tawaf

Tawaf starts at the Black Stone called Hajr al Aswad. It’s seven times walking around the kabba in the anticlockwise direction.

Walking in each round, women can recite Duas or Quran. If it’s too rushed while tawaf for safety you should stay in the outer circle. This also helps protect modesty.

Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his son Prophet Ismail (AS) built Kabba. It is very important in Islam. It is the first house of Allah made for worship.

Today, it is the Qibla of Muslims that Muslims can face during prayers.

Salat at Maqam Ibrahim

Women pray two Rakats near Maqam Ibrahim after Tawaf. Maqam Ibrahim is a small structure covered with glass. When Prophet Ibrahim stood to build the Kabba, the footprint was left behin,d and it’s called Maqam Ibrahim.

Women can pray anywhere in the masjid if it is crowded. Salat at Maqam Ibrahim shows respect for Prophet Ibrahim’s faith and hard work in serving Allah.

Zamzam Water

Zamzam water is a blessed water and its available at many points in the Masjid. Women should drink Zamzam water after praying from Masjid al-Haram. There is a story behind blessed Zamzam water.

The story is about the wife of Prophet Ibrahim and the infant baby Prophet Ismail. Prophet Ibrahim leaves Hajar in the desert of Makkah. Hajar searched for food and water for her infant baby, Prophet Ismail.

She ran seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwa. Then, angel Jibreel came by the order of Allah. He struck the ground near Prophet Ismail, and water gushed out. This water saves lives, and it’s still flowing.

Purify the soul, bring blessings, and fulfil prayers by drinking the blessed Zamzam water.

Multazam

Multazam is a very special spot for Dua’s. It’s located between the Black Stone and the Kabba’s door. Multazma is the place where women should raise their hands and ask for forgiveness from Allah.

Women can pray for their desires and needs. That moment makes a deep connection with Allah.

These blessing rituals remind us of the sacrifice of great Prophets and Allah’s mercy.

Sa’iy

Sa’iy is a very important ritual of Umrah. It’s walking between the hills of Safa and Marwa back and forth seven times. Every lap is full of faith, patience, and trust in Allah.

Duas for Sa’iy

Walking in Sa’iy and reciting Duas enhance the spiritual experience and help to focus on Allah.

   إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِن شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ.

Translation, “Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah” (Quran 2:158).

Ask for Allah’s blessings in Sa’iy, and women can recite any personal Duas. A common Dua is recited during Sa’iy between the hills,

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْأَعَزُّ الْأَكْرَمُ.

This means, “O my Lord, forgive and have mercy. You are the Most Honorable and Generous.”

Umrah for Women Practical Tips

Older women or pregnant women should not go fast. Here are some tips for women,

  • During pregnancy avoid exhaustion, wand alk at a slow speed.
  • Before starting the Sa’iy drink Zamzam water to avoid dehydration.
  • During each lap, briefly take ra est.
  • Wear low-weight and comfortable shoes during Sa’iy.
  • While walking, maintain a steady speed. Women have no need to run, unlike men during the marked green area.

Historical Significance

Sa’iy recounts Prophet Ibrahim’s wife Hajar’s story. Allah instructed Prophet Ibrahim to send his wife packing into the desert of Makkah. Prophet Ismail’s mother searched back and forth between Safa and Marwa to find water and food for her newborn son.

Due to her absolute faith in Allah Hajar witnessed the sudden emergence of the Zamzam well.

Muslims commemorate Hajar’s patience through Sa’iy, which honors her faith.

Muslims learn about Hajar’s powerful faith alongside Allah’s rewards through this tradition.

The Sa’iy ritual demonstrates perseverance alongside faith and the mercy of Allah to his followers. The practice enables women to build a connection with Hajar while reinforcing their spiritual path.

Taqseer (Hair Cutting)

Guidance on Hair Cutting

During the Umrah pilgrimage, Muslims perform the Taqseer ritual, which involves hair cutting. Muslims perform Taqseer by cutting their hair after they finish all main Umrah tasks. During this ritual, men have the option to completely shave their heads or maintain short hair. Women only shave off a small portion of their hair during this ritual.

This act has a deep meaning. The act of haircutting demonstrates the pilgrim’s submission to Allah alongside their humility. Pilgrims achieve spiritual renewal through haircutting after Umrah.

The ritual acts as a way to wash away past transgressions. The pilgrim receives a spiritual renewal through this ritual which signifies a fresh start of their spiritual journey.

The act of cutting hair requires no complexity. Its spiritual importance remains very high. Through cutting hair pilgrims demonstrate their lowliness before Allah and their devoted worship.

Removing Ihram

After pilgrims cut their hair, they leave the religious state of Ihram. The pilgrims have completed their obligations after their state of Ihram ends. Pilgrims complete their duties so they can now wear regular clothing as they move back into normal life.

An exit from Ihram indicates the pilgrim has completed every Umrah requirement. The completion of the pilgrimage duties has resulted in spiritual renewal for the pilgrim. After fulfilling their responsibilities pilgrims can resume ordinary life while feeling at peace.

Essential Rules of Umrah for Ladies

Menstruation Rules

Women who menstruate during Umrah will be unable to complete specific ritual activities. Pilgrims should wait until menstruation is completed to resume their Umrah rites.

Before starting Umrah activities, travelers must decide where they will rest throughout their journey. By planning ahead you can eliminate confusion and stress.

Safety Tips

Women need to remain near their group members so they don’t lose their way. Following established safety guidelines and remaining with reliable companions will keep you safe.

Interaction with Non-Mahram Men

The expectations of modest behavior guide women through their actions during this time. You should keep away from non-Mahram men unless absolutely required. When visiting public spaces maintain constant awareness because they often become crowded.

“The Prophet (PBUH) said, “No man should be alone with a woman except with a Mahram (relative), and no woman should travel except with a Mahram.” A man stood up and said, “O Allah’s Apostle! My wife has left for Hajj while I am written in the army for such-and-such battle.” The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Go back and perform Hajj with your wife.”
