What If My Umrah Hotel Room Isn’t Ready When I Arrive in Makkah?

What If My Umrah Hotel Room Isn’t Ready?

If your Makkah hotel room is not ready when you arrive, first check the official check-in time on your booking confirmation. If you have arrived early, the hotel may simply be waiting for the normal check-in time.

If your confirmed check-in time has already passed, speak to reception or the duty manager, show your booking confirmation and ask when the room will be available.

What Should I Do First?

Keep your:

  • passport
  • booking confirmation
  • hotel voucher
  • agency contact details

ready when you reach reception.

Saudi Umrah guidance says pilgrims generally need their reservation information and identification when entering their accommodation.

Ask the hotel to confirm:

Is my reservation showing in your system?

What is my official check-in time?

How long will the room take?

This quickly tells you whether the issue is simply early arrival or an actual booking problem.

What If I Arrive Before Check-In Time?

This is quite common.

Flights may reach Jeddah early in the morning while hotel check-in is not until later in the day.

In that situation, ask whether the hotel can:

  • store your luggage
  • provide somewhere to sit
  • offer early check-in if a room becomes available

Do not assume early check-in is included unless your booking specifically says so.

If you are already in Ihram, you can rest, eat or wait before performing Umrah while continuing to observe the restrictions of Ihram.

Our guide on whether you must perform Umrah immediately after arriving in Makkah explains this in more detail.

What If My Check-In Time Has Already Passed?

Ask to speak to a manager and keep a written record of what you are told.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Tourism says accommodation providers are expected to fulfil commitments made in booking documents and on booking platforms. If a facility fails to meet those commitments and does not resolve the issue, tourists can complain through the Unified Tourism Call Center on 930.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah also states that pilgrim rights cover accommodation, contracted services and complaint-resolution procedures.

What If the Hotel Says It Has No Booking for Me?

Contact whoever made the reservation immediately.

If you booked through an Umrah agency, ask them to send the hotel confirmation directly to reception.

Do not pay for another room immediately unless you understand what has happened.

Take screenshots of:

  • your confirmation
  • hotel messages
  • reception response
  • any extra payment requested

If your accommodation is materially different from what you were promised, read our guide on what to do if your Umrah hotel is not as promised.

What If I Have Children or Elderly Parents With Me?

Tell reception immediately if somebody in your group is elderly, unwell, pregnant or unable to wait comfortably.

Ask whether they can prioritize the room or provide a safe seating area.

When booking future trips, hotel check-in times and distance from the Haram should be considered alongside the star rating. Our guide on whether you should stay near the Haram may help.

Planning Your Umrah Accommodation?

Always keep your hotel voucher and agency contact details available when travelling between Jeddah and Makkah.
