What Does BRN Mean?
In the Umrah travel industry, BRN usually means Booking Reference Number.
However, there is an important detail.
The current Saudi government pages we checked describe agreement reference numbers and package records inside Nusuk Masar rather than consistently using the abbreviation “BRN”.
In practical terms, when an agent asks for a BRN, they usually mean the official reference that proves your accommodation or package service has been recorded in the Saudi Umrah system.
Why Is a BRN Important for an Umrah Visa?
For pilgrims using the dedicated Umrah visa route, accommodation and package information may need to be connected to the official system.
Saudi Arabia currently allows Umrah companies to create accommodation agreements through Nusuk Masar, confirm hotel capacity and connect those arrangements to pilgrim packages.
The Ministry also provides an official service where pilgrims can check their Umrah program using their:
- passport number
- nationality
- visa number
and view the services linked to that program.
So the reference is not just a random hotel confirmation number. It helps connect the service to the official Umrah process.
Is My Booking.com or Agoda Reference a BRN?
Not necessarily.
A Booking.com, Agoda or hotel-direct confirmation number proves that you made a commercial reservation.
That does not automatically mean the reservation has been entered into Nusuk Masar as part of an Umrah package.
This distinction is exactly what is confusing many 2026 travelers.
If you are applying for a dedicated Umrah visa through an authorized agent, ask:
“Is my hotel booking officially linked to my Umrah program in Nusuk Masar?”
That is more useful than simply asking whether you have a hotel confirmation.
Can I Book My Own Hotel and Still Get a BRN?
Potentially, but it depends on your visa route and how the hotel or authorized Umrah operator handles the booking.

That means the important issue is not only where you found the hotel, but whether the accommodation used for your Umrah programe is properly recorded through the official process.
Do not accept a “dummy hotel” or false booking simply to obtain a reference.
Does Every UK Pilgrim Need a BRN?
No universal answer applies to every UK traveler.
Saudi Arabia currently allows Umrah journeys through several routes, including:
- Nusuk Umrah
- Saudi visa channels for eligible nationalities
- authorized external agents

A British passport holder travelling on an eligible tourist visa may therefore have a different process from a Pakistani passport holder living in the UK who needs a dedicated Umrah visa.

This is more reliable than relying only on a WhatsApp screenshot from an agent.
If the accommodation shown does not match what you paid for, contact the provider before travelling.
